Washington, D.C.—Representative Mike Collins (R-Ga.) has announced the introduction of the Restricting Administration Zealots from Obliging Raiders (RAZOR) Act. This legislation aims to prevent the federal government, including the U.S. Border Patrol, from removing or altering any state-constructed barriers intended to mitigate illegal immigration.

The motivation behind this bill stems from the recent Supreme Court decision, which upheld the Biden administration's policy to direct the Border Patrol to remove razor wire installed by the state of Texas along the U.S.-Mexico border. Rep. Collins expressed his concerns, stating, "President Biden is aiding and abetting illegal aliens who are swarming our border and raiding our country's resources. Why else would he try to stop the state of Texas from turning them back to Mexico? With the Supreme Court siding with the America Last policies of the Biden administration, Congress must stand with Governor Greg Abbott as he fights for the sovereignty of his state and our nation."

The Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision on January 22, 2024, allowing the temporary removal of razor wire installed by Texas law enforcement at specific locations known for high illegal immigrant activity. Governor Greg Abbott had directed the installation of this barbed wire to discourage individuals from attempting to enter the United States illegally.

Since President Joe Biden assumed office, the country has witnessed over 8 million illegal crossings nationwide, with at least 1.7 million individuals who successfully evaded apprehension, commonly referred to as "gotaways." Along the U.S. southern border alone, over 6.7 million individuals have entered the country illegally, with law enforcement encountering 312 individuals on the terrorist watchlist.

The RAZOR Act seeks to address the ongoing challenges at the border by prohibiting the federal government from removing state-constructed barriers. This legislation aligns with Governor Abbott's efforts to protect the sovereignty of Texas and the United States as a whole. By standing against the Supreme Court's decision and the policies of the Biden administration, Congress would send a strong message in support of border security.

The introduction of the RAZOR Act adds another layer to the ongoing discussions surrounding immigration policy in the United States. As the crisis at the border persists, it becomes increasingly important for lawmakers to find effective solutions that balance security concerns with humanitarian considerations. The outcome of this proposed legislation will undoubtedly have significant implications for the enforcement of immigration laws and the protection of the country's borders.

The RAZOR Act, if passed, would represent a significant step towards safeguarding the integrity of the U.S.-Mexico border and preserving the sovereignty of the states. As the debate on immigration continues, it remains to be seen how this legislation will fare in Congress and whether it will garner the necessary support to become law.
